I’m not really a big fan of NPR but they had an article yesterday about Rev. Chester Cook who is the chaplain at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. This guy is an example of how religion is supposed to work. And an example of why I’ve never really been a fan of organized religion, if there were more people like him then maybe I would like it. This guy doesn’t care about the materialistic things others do. He doesn’t care what faith someone else is, he just cares about helping others, the way god would. He shows that it’s possible to do good works and honor your faith without shoving it down other people’s throats.
Values that are applied with open heart and security in ones faith do far more for their faith, and others, than all the evangelizing and proselytizing. By living in their faith, and living to its promise, they will bring more to them, than all the folks who hold up signs and smugly tell folks how they’ll burn.
The article is a bit long so if you don’t have time then you can Listen to the Story here.

This is definately the kind of house I could do some worshiping in.
It has been called an answer to a beer drinker’s prayers: This contemporary cathedral in Brussels, Belgium, is made with cases of beer.
I saw this photo on a Web site called The Pop Up City. It is run by a group of architects in Amsterdam looking a new ways to build things.
This particular creation is work of a firm in Belgium called V+ and was part of a larger exposition there called Atomium Expo 58.
The structure is made with 33,000 cases of Jupiter beer, Belgium’s best-seller.
Pretty impressive.

So why can’t I?

Indeed, why not? Why all the anger against homosexuals from the Christian camp?

The Community Issues Council, a group made up of one nutjob, promoting “Christian Citizenship Action in Tampa Bay,” recently teamed with a local businessman(sucker) who ponied up $50,000 to purchase billboards in the Tampa Bay area to publicly lobby for an American government the dynamic duo believe was intended “only for people who are moral and religious” and to combat the “separation lie.” (Christian Group’s Billboards Denounce Separation of Church,State)

Something I would like to point out from this article:
“The Bushing family said they put the cross up three years ago as the youngster was battling earbone cancer. Once the cross went up, the family believes the cancer stopped spreading.”
Here’s the thing. If your God lets you get EARBONE cancer, I don’t think hanging up a mockup of the thing we used to kill his son will change his mind. That’s one sick, twisted deity. I’ve always wondered, if Christ had been burned at the stake, would everyone be wearing packs of matches around their necks? Or if he was killed by hanging would it be OK to wear a noose charm? It’s too bad a giant flask of whiskey didn’t fall on him. Then I could get behind it.
The problem here is the people didn’t want to have to give in to the HOA terms that they agreed to because their faith was more important. What’s the big deal? They can display a slightly-smaller cross and the HOA will not complain… But I guess if they do that, God won’t notice it and the earbone cancer will start spreading again right?
They could put a life-sized one inside their house and nail themselves to it every time they think the HOA (THEY WILLINGLY JOINED) is persecuting them.
And if they think putting up a cross cured cancer then I have a magical rock here that keeps tigers away. Look, there’s no tigers here, so my rock works. Want to buy it?
