A Des Moines man drove himself to Mercy Medical Center late Saturday night after a friend bit his ear off in his apartment during an argument, police said.

Benjamin Bol, 32, drove from his 4000 block Hubbell Avenue apartment to the hospital with a piece of his right ear attached only by a thin strip of flesh, police said.


The fight stemmed from an argument the man was having with a friend from Omaha over a woman, police said.


The suspect fled the apartment after the fight in a Dodge Dakota Pickup truck, police said.
